Half a million energy devices, one connected energy system
A few years ago, we set out on a mission to connect and optimize the world’s energy devices. Today, more than 500,000 EVs, batteries, solar inverters and heat pumps speak the same language through Enode, enabling flexibility at GW scale across Europe and beyond.
It’s easy to see a number like that and move on to the next milestone. A million is not that many months away. But behind every connection is so much work, it’s worth celebrating for a moment. Broken APIs rebuilt from scratch. Late-night debugging. Countless small fixes to make a Tesla, a SolarEdge inverter and a Solis battery speak the same language. Our team at Enode has put their hearts into their work. The outcome? We’re making energy management work at scale, and this milestone is a big step towards that goal.
Each connection to Enode represents a device that’s part of a bigger energy ecosystem. It’s an EV charging when the grid is cleanest, a battery storing energy for demand response events, a heat pump making sure the house is comfortable when people get home. Millions of people are affected by how we control these devices, so we do our absolute best to give them peace of mind as they electrify their homes.
So what’s next? For us, connecting and managing energy devices is just the first step of a longer plan. Now, together with some of our customers, we will turn these connections into coordinated systems that enable residential flexibility to work at scale. And we are really excited to share more about that soon!
From research to reality and reliability
For too long, residential flexibility has been stuck in pilots and research papers. The value potential, and the impact it could have on the energy system have been clear, but very few companies have been able to realize it. Connecting and optimizing thousands of devices across different brands, firmware, and markets was almost impossible, and that’s the problem we set out to solve with Enode.
Today, energy retailers and aggregators across Europe are using our platform to run full-scale flexibility programs built on reliable connectivity. The growth hasn’t just been in the number of connected assets, but in VPP performance and end-user trust. Every device we have added has made the system more stable and predictable.
This quality and experience help our customers move faster from proof-of-concept to large pools of connected assets. Asset pools that then deliver real value to consumers and to energy retailers, in the GW scale, across Europe, US and APAC.
What comes now?
We did not reach this milestone alone. We reached it together with energy retailers, aggregators and OEMs who work shoulder-to-shoulder with us to make the energy transition happen. Thank you!
But our work is far from done. Half a million connected devices is just a milestone, not an endpoint. We continue to grow with our customers, and each new connection adds complexity and opportunity. Making sure these energy devices can be used for flexibility will define the next decade of the energy transition, and we are here to see that it happens - fast!
