Indra and Enode partner to bring smart EV charging into energy apps and flexibility programs

Electrical vehicle (EV) charging is no longer a standalone activity. It needs to work as part of the overall energy product, connected to tariffs, responsive to grid conditions, and simple to use in everyday life. That shift puts pressure on how chargers are integrated and operated.
Indra Renewable Technologies, a UK-based smart energy technology company founded in 2013 and headquartered in Malvern, Worcestershire, is working with Enode to make its chargers available within the energy apps and services that retailers offer to their customers. The company specializes in intelligent EV charging and has been an early driver of bidirectional charging, showing how EVs can support both households and the wider energy system.
Through this partnership, Indra chargers can be connected into energy apps and flexibility programs powered by Enode. This allows Indra owners to connect their chargers to their energy provider’s app and access smart charging features without any additional setup.
Making smart charging part of the energy product
Indra’s home charging range, including the Smart PRO and Smart LUX, is designed around a clear idea. Charging should adapt to the energy system, not the other way around.
Both models support app-based control, integrate with smart tariffs, and can prioritize solar energy. In practice, that means charging can automatically shift to lower-cost periods, make use of surplus solar energy, and respond to system signals without requiring constant user input.
With Enode now supporting Indra chargers, those capabilities can be embedded directly into the retailer offering. Charging can be scheduled based on price signals, aligned with dynamic tariffs, and included in flexibility programs in a way that feels consistent to the end customer.
For retailers, this means they don’t need to integrate each charger brand separately or maintain those integrations over time. Instead, they can include Indra chargers in their offering through a single integration, making it easier to launch and scale smart charging across their customer base.
From device integration to operational scale
As more retailers begin offering EV drivers smart, optimized charging experiences, the focus is increasingly shifting toward ensuring these solutions operate reliably at scale as adoption continues to grow. Chargers need to behave predictably across different homes, tariffs, and system conditions. Data needs to be consistent, and control needs to work in real time.
Indra’s chargers are built with this in mind. They support automated charging schedules, over-the-air updates, and integration with leading smart tariffs, while maintaining a consistent user experience through the Indra app
The work between Indra and Enode focuses on making this operational layer dependable. That includes stable device connectivity, consistent data models, and support for real-time control that aligns with how tariffs and flexibility programs are actually run.
A more open charging ecosystem
Indra has built its position around interoperability, supporting both consumer and commercial use cases and working closely with energy retailers.
Connecting through Enode places Indra chargers into a broader ecosystem of devices that can be orchestrated through a single platform. This makes it easier for retailers to expand their offering over time, without adding new layers of integration for each device category and each different brand.
“As EV adoption grows, the complexity behind smart charging increases. You need chargers that can respond reliably to different tariffs, grid signals, and user preferences,” says Matt Noonan, CTO at Indra. “Our focus at Indra is to make that complexity manageable through strong interoperability. Partnering with Enode allows us to connect into a wider ecosystem and ensure our chargers can be operated consistently across different energy platforms”
As more households adopt EVs and other energy devices, seamless integration across them is becoming an expectation from homeowners. Energy retailers are increasingly working to deliver on that as part of their core offering.
