The value is in the whole home. Connecting it is the hard part.

A few years ago a flexible home meant one device, usually the car. Now it’s the car, a battery, solar on the roof, maybe a heat pump, often all in the same house.

One device at a time, that home isn’t worth much to you. Run together, around the home’s own prices and habits, it’s worth a lot.

The problem is you can’t run what you can’t reach. If half the devices won’t connect, or they drop off every time a manufacturer changes something on their end, you’re left coordinating a fraction of the home. The more of it you can connect and keep connected, across more brands, the more of it you can actually use.

This is why we care so much about connections. We connect more of the home than anyone else, across hundreds of brands and over a thousand models, in more than 1.7 million households. Verdantix, the analyst firm, rates us top of the market on device connectivity.

Once you can reach the whole home, you stop thinking in devices and start thinking in households. Two customers can own the exact same kit, and one home is worth far more than the other, because you can reach and coordinate more of it. What a household is worth to you comes down to how much of it you can actually reach.

So the math is simple. Connect more homes, more reliably, and you capture more value and reach more of the market as your customers keep adding devices. Get the connection layer right and you can treat the home as one system, which is what it’s turning into. That’s the part worth getting right first.
