Iberdrola uses Enode to connect millions to a smarter energy system

Iberdrola has long been a frontrunner in clean energy, with one of the world’s largest renewable generation portfolios and a commitment to electrifying society through innovation across the entire energy value chain. But their leadership extends beyond energy supply. With their Advanced Smart Assistant (ASA) service, Iberdrola is reshaping how households consume and manage energy.
First home energy management service started as a hardware-led proposition in Spain, combining solar insights, EV charger installation and smart charging. It gave customers more control and visibility over their energy use and marked Iberdrola’s first retail flex offerings in the market.
But as Iberdrola looked to scale, it became clear that hardware alone wasn’t enough.
“The cost and connectivity needs of hardware-based solutions limited our ability to reach every customer,” says Carlos Pascual, Head of Energy Management Solutions at Smart Solutions, Iberdrola. “We needed a more scalable, flexible foundation, and that meant adding a software approach.”
That shift brought Enode into the picture.
From hardware-first to software-scalable
Iberdrola integrated Enode to evolve ASA into a next-generation energy management platform, starting with EV flexibility. Instead of relying solely on customers’ connectivity through EV chargers, Iberdrola could now connect to hundreds of EVs instantly via Enode’s API, dramatically accelerating time-to-market.

Since launch, the new ASA EV proposition has rolled out to customers in Spain.
Building toward whole-home energy management
The EV rollout is only the beginning. Iberdrola’s ambition is to turn ASA into a full household energy platform – adding new DER categories like residential batteries, heat pumps and more.
With a foundation built on Enode, every new asset type can be layered in without starting from scratch, enabling rapid scaling with minimal additional investment.
This allows Iberdrola customers to keep innovating without rebuilding infrastructure, and helps consumers get more value from every connected device in their home.
Software-powered flexibility, backed by renewables
What sets Iberdrola apart is their ability to pair digital flexibility with one of the strongest renewable generation portfolios in the world. By using residential devices as demand-side assets, they can unlock more system flexibility and drive even greater value from their clean energy production.
This isn’t just a win for Iberdrola’s energy management capabilities. It’s a win for households, who gain access to smarter, more automated services that help them save money and reduce their climate impact.
“Iberdrola is setting a new benchmark for how energy companies can lead in the next phase of the energy transition,” says Henrik Langeland, CEO and co-founder of Enode. “They’re showing that digital innovation and system-wide sustainability go hand in hand, and we’re proud to help enable that shift.”
The ASA platform is evolving into one of the most advanced residential energy management offerings in Europe, and Enode is proud to help make it happen.
