How Pod Point and Enode are enabling wholesale EV flexibility

Pod Point, one of the UK’s leading EV charging providers, recently entered a new energy flex market, becoming the first company to sell energy in the wholesale market under the new P415 regulations. By partnering with Enode, Pod Point is progressing its Energy Flex strategy; helping customers charge their EVs at the most cost-effective times while supporting the Grid with demand-balancing.

Making wholesale market participation simple

Following the introduction of P415, EV chargers and other behind-the-meter assets can now participate in the UK’s wholesale electricity market. Pod Point is the first EV charging provider to deliver this and is building a proposition to deliver flex at scale.

Eligible customers are invited to sign up and share some basic tariff and charging information, and Pod Point takes care of the rest - adjusting charging times based on grid conditions to help balance supply and demand.

Powered by real-time EV data from Enode

Enabling wholesale flexibility requires more than just app integration. Behind the scenes, Pod Point uses Enode’s APIs to access real-time EV data—including battery state of charge (SoC), charging status, and user preferences. This allows Pod Point to accurately estimate flexibility potential and align charging with market signals—without compromising the user experience.

“Pod Point’s ability to deliver wholesale flexibility is a powerful example of what’s possible when regulation, data, and design come together. We’re proud to support this behind the scenes—enabling flexibility at scale while keeping the user experience simple.”
– Henrik Loennechen, Head of Partnerships at Enode

Scaling impact through existing infrastructure

With the UK’s largest network of EV chargers, Pod Point is well positioned to scale this offering. The partnership with Enode provides the digital infrastructure to do it reliably—using connected EVs as grid assets, without disrupting the driver experience.

“Our mission has always been to make EV charging affordable and convenient, and through Flex we provide a hassle-free charging experience when energy is cheapest, resulting in a win-win-win for Pod Point, our customers and the Grid. Partnering with Enode provides us with important real-time data to enable charging flexibility at scale, which is a priority for the business this year.”
– Pilgrim Beart, VP of Grid at Pod Point

A model for scaling user-friendly energy participation

This partnership is a milestone for both EV flexibility and user experience. Together, Pod Point and Enode are showing how new regulation can translate into real-world impact—through simple, empowering experiences that put users at the center of the energy transition.
