Behind the Circuit: Meet Sruthi Subramanyam, Senior Software Engineer at Enode

At Enode, writing clean, scalable code is only part of the job. Building systems that help energy retailers support solar and battery users is just as critical – and that’s where Sruthi Subramanyam comes in.
Sruthi is a Senior Software Engineer on Enode’s Home Energy team. Her work focuses on expanding our API to support solar inverters, home batteries and other distributed energy resources – enabling our customers to create better user experiences and stronger demand-side products.
Behind the Circuit is our series spotlighting the individuals driving Enode forward. In this edition, we talk to Sruthi about her path to clean tech, the systems thinking behind her team’s work, and what it’s like building energy infrastructure while parenting a five-year-old.
Engineering a career with impact
Sruthi grew up in India and moved to Norway seven years ago. Since then, she’s grown to love snow, knekkebrød – and navigating life as the mother of a very curious 5-year-old.
Her path into software engineering was driven by a love for problem-solving: “I saw Software Engineering early on as a gateway to endless possibilities – a field where I could continually learn and take on challenges that matter.”
That instinct for tackling meaningful challenges has stayed with her. Over the years, Sruthi’s built deep appreciation for “scalable infrastructure, clean code and thoughtful design.”
Her interest in the energy space came later, sparked by her partner’s thesis on using excess renewable energy to produce biofuel. But it was a road trip through Norway and Germany, driving past wind farms and solar fields, that eventually led her to Enode.
“I became increasingly curious about this space, and was instantly drawn to Enode’s mission,” says Sruthi. “I’m not just a conscious consumer anymore. Now - I feel proud to be an engineer actively contributing to the systems that make cleaner, smarter energy possible.”
Working on the Home Energy team
Sruthi’s team builds the capabilities that let energy retailers support their users with solar inverters, batteries, and other home energy devices. “Home batteries and solar installations are surging around the world,” she says. “We want to help retailers strengthen their role in residential demand shaping by offering great products powered by our API.”
On any given day, that might mean whiteboarding technical systems in Miro, pairing on a new integration, or running a discovery workshop to shape features around real user needs. Her team works closely with Product Managers and Customer Success to understand the full problem space, identify early adopters, and shape deliverables that are both technically sound and commercially valuable.
“The work is all about modelling these systems accurately and meaningfully – balancing technical constraints with customer needs,” she explains. “What I love is that everyone involved takes ownership of key milestones.”
Sruthi describes her team as “incredibly supportive, collaborative, and genuinely a joy to work with.” What stands out to her is their shared curiosity: “Whether it’s digging into the intricacies of a solar inverter, questioning a design decision, or leading a retrospective – the passion for solving complex problems is real.”
A culture of craftsmanship
As an engineer, Sruthi thrives in Enode’s strong culture of technical craftsmanship. “We have a strong foundation of clean, simple design and well-thought-out systems, which sets a high bar – but it’s not competitive, it’s motivating,” she says.
That high bar is sustained by a shared mindset: everyone is eager to make things better, learn from each other, and continuously refine what we build. “It creates an environment where quality is contagious.” This blend of engineering precision and collaborative, creative problem solving is “exciting, almost addictive” - it creates a culture where you’re constantly learning from the people around you.
Building meaningful work and a flexible life
For Sruthi, the remote setup at Enode is more than just a logistical perk – it’s an intentional design that enables better collaboration and a more balanced life.
“My favourite part about working remotely is the intentionality it brings to collaboration,” she says. From clear documentation and thoughtful async discussions to feedback-driven monthly town halls, Sruthi appreciates the focus on meaningful communication.
But remote work also helps her balance the demands of parenting and professional life. “I can structure my day around deep work, care work, and everything in between – optimising for outcomes, not hours.”
That flexibility, combined with Enode’s regular team and company offsites, creates a culture that is both high-trust and deeply connected.
Advice for new joiners
Asked what she’d tell someone joining Enode, Sruthi is clear: “Be ready to stretch your understanding of the energy devices and impact the energy transition. There’s a lot to learn, and that’s part of the fun.”
Her advice? “Come in with a learning mindset, ask questions freely, and don’t hesitate to share your opinions or challenge ideas – everyone’s super supportive, and we’re all figuring things out together.”
